Andrew Infanti: an overview

Born in the United States of America, naturalized French and based in Paris (France), Andrew Infanti holds a Doctorate in Contemporary Music Performance (2004, University of California, San Diego), and obtains in 2011 the Agrégation de musique in France (a competitive and prestigious University title allowing access to teaching in all domains of civil service).

As pianist and musicologist, he gravitates towards composers and performers who, since the beginning of the 20th Century, have asked fundamental questions about the future of their art, in practice as well as in theory, such as Arnold Schoenberg, Olivier Messiaen, Michael Finnissy, Peter Ablinger

As pianist, he performs in very diverse settings. Naturally, in recitals or concerts, but also in less traditional situations. Following the example of his teacher and friend Robert Helps, Infanti often seeks collective artistic expressions in which several performers collaborate, and within which the wider audience is incited to be more active than ordinarily required in “Classical music” settings. He participates in artistic “installations” involving music, theater, dance, and film.

As musicologist, he takes part in numerous academic conferences, in France, in America and abroad. He also directs masterclasses and teaches young musicians on a day-to-day basis to complete their training alongside technical Conservatory courses.

As composer and pianist, he follows the path suggested by Ferruccio Busoni : this cosmopolitan figure proposes to seek in the past, as well as the present, all forms of progressive musical technique and expression, even if the result remains a sketch (“Entwurf”)…

With this concept in mind, he collaborates with world-class partners such as Luciane Cardassi, Sean Griffin, Matthew Shlomowitz ; and especially Juliana Snapper
